Pure Electric

Pure Electric approached Graffiti Design to survey, manufacture and install all external and internal signs and graphics in 11 new stores in the UK and Europe.

The Brief

We were invited by Pure Electric to survey, manufacture and install all external and internal signs and graphics in 11 new stores in the UK and Europe. This all had to be done within a three-week period during May 2020. This was a demanding task, as it involved surveying more than 11 sites at once. At the same time, we had to manufacture all of the LED illuminated external signs, and create striking internal displays. The installation on all sites had to be completed within 15 days.

Project details

Pure Electric is a fast-expanding company, opening stores across the UK and in Europe, and promoting a transformation in our society. Their ethos is for a cleaner environment and a healthier future. Our aim was to go for simplicity and clean lines that reflect these concepts. We chose to go big and bold in monochrome for the external fascia of the storefronts, making an impact that underscored the purity aspect of the enterprise. For the interior hoardings, we combined colour photographs with a three-colour infographic.

This project was timed for the simultaneous launch of 11 national and international retail outlets, to promote an entirely new business venture. We had three weeks to produce complete external branding, as well as some internal display signs and graphics for the demo and service centres. We designed bold exterior signs with LED illumination for the shop frontage. We also made large illustrated hoardings promoting the benefits of electric bikes for the interior test centres.

Since the initial rush for the launch, we have now completed 18 sites, including stores in Paris and Madrid. Many more sites are planned by Pure Electric in mainland Europe and UK.

To undertake this project, we used digital printers to print all the graphics for the external window and the internal displays. The letter faces were cut with CNC routers prior to construction. These routers, together with our pressbrake and guillotine, were also essential for manufacturing the runs of folded aluminium sign-tray fascias and projecting signs. We used our in-house paint plant to apply the various paint finishes to all the signs.

We employed a variety of materials in the project, including aluminium, acrylic, ACM, digitally printed media and LEDs. These were chosen primarily due to their durability, light weight and low cost.
